Intended for physical installation, this projects attempts to build off of Peeters’ aesthetic and the expressive nature of her paintings, by using similar compositional techniques. However, the subject matter resembles items that a privileged person such as myself could have within the confines of their home. This introduces the cultural juxtaposition that exists when comparing a misogynistic and damaging situation such as Peeters’ to a privileged one in the contemporary era.
Still Life
"Context" - Influenced by the paintings of Clara Peeters. She almost exclusively painted still life's due to the limitations imposed by men culturally around female artists in Belgium during the 1600's. This context is vital while viewing her artwork. In the face of such challenges, she was a visionary on still-life at the time and assisted in the creative development of the genre greatly.
